Saint Michael's Bridge

Saint Michael's Bridge
About

Saint Michael’s Bridge is one of Ghent’s most enchanting viewpoints, offering a sweeping panorama of the city’s historic heart. Completed in the early twentieth century in a graceful stone arch design, the bridge replaced an older swing bridge and quickly became a favourite spot for locals and visitors. From its gentle rise, the city’s famous three‑towers skyline unfolds in perfect alignment, with Saint Nicholas’ Church, the Belfry and St. Bavo’s Cathedral standing proudly above the streets. To one side lies the picturesque Graslei and Korenlei, their medieval guild houses reflected in the water, while the silhouette of Saint Michael’s Church anchors the scene. The bridge’s lantern‑style streetlights and elegant balustrades add to its romantic charm, especially at dusk when the city glows. Today, Saint Michael’s Bridge remains one of Ghent’s most photographed locations, capturing the timeless beauty of the old port and the harmony of its architectural heritage.
