Location

Wondelgemse Meersen is located on the northern outskirts of Ghent in the Bloemekenswijk neighborhood near the border with Wondelgem, along the historic Canal De Lieve and adjacent to the Gaardeniersbrug tram bridge. This former marshland and medieval hay meadow, now a biologically valuable green zone of about 100 hectares with wetlands, wild paths, ponds, rare wall lizards, and diverse flora and fauna, includes remnants threatened by development plans but preserved as nature areas including a hagedissenhotel and struimpaden for exploration. Nearby, the Wiedauwkaai industrial zone and Pakketbootpad offer walking access, while cycling or tram routes connect to Ghent’s city center landmarks like Gravensteen Castle, the Belfry, Graslei waterfront, and public transport hubs in the bustling northern districts.
