Sint Jan’s Church is one of Maastricht’s most recognisable landmarks, rising beside the Basilica of Saint Servatius with its striking red tower that dominates the Vrijthof skyline. Originally built as a parish church in the Middle Ages, it later became the official baptistery of the basilica, giving it a unique role in the city’s religious life. This Gothic landmark from the 14th-15th centuries, known for its distinctive 70-metre red sandstone tower, forms a unique "church twin" pair with its Roman Catholic neighbour and offers panoramic city views from its viewing platform.
