The Sint Servaasbrug is one of Maastricht’s most recognisable landmarks, a graceful stone arch bridge that has linked the two banks of the Meuse since the late thirteenth century. Often regarded as the oldest surviving bridge in the Netherlands, it replaced an earlier structure that collapsed in 1275 and has remained a vital crossing point ever since. Its series of elegant arches, rebuilt and reinforced over the centuries, give the bridge a timeless character that blends seamlessly with the historic cityscape. Today, the Sint Servaasbrug is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, offering a calm and scenic route into the old town. Sint Servaasbrug is an old stone pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the River Meuse in the historic centre of Maastricht, linking the Binnenstad on the west bank with the Wyck district on the east bank. It sits just north of the site of the former Roman bridge and forms one of the city’s most scenic crossings, with direct views towards Vrijthof and the Basilica of Our Lady on one side and Wyck’s lively Stationsstraat and Maastricht Central Station area on the other. The bridge lies within a short walk of the main shopping streets, riverside promenades, boat tour jetties and numerous cafés and restaurants along both quays, making it a natural gateway between the old town and the trendy eastern bank.
