The Hoge Brug in Maastricht is a sleek, modern pedestrian and cycling bridge that spans the River Meuse, connecting the historic city centre with the Wyck and Céramique districts. Opened in 2003 and designed by the Belgian architect René Greisch, the bridge is instantly recognisable for its elegant steel arch, which rises high above the water to allow uninterrupted river traffic. Its minimalist design, long sweeping lines and gentle inclines create a sense of openness, offering wide views over the river and the city’s skyline. Hoge Brug, known locally as Hoeg Brögk, is a modern pedestrian and cyclist bridge spanning the River Meuse in southern Maastricht. Opened in 2003, it connects the historic city centre on the west bank—near Stadspark and Onze-Lieve-Vrouwewal—with Wyck and the contemporary Céramique district on the east bank, positioned between Sint Servaasbrug to the north and Kennedybrug to the south. Nearby attractions include Charles Eyckpark and Plein 1992 for green spaces and events, the Vesting Museum and Helpoort gate within a short walk in the old town, plus riverside paths along Maasboulevard ideal for strolls or cycling, with Céramique’s striking architecture, shops, and cafés just across.
