The Sint Theresiakerk in Maastricht is a striking 1930s church located in the quiet Biesland district, known for its robust Kunrader limestone façade and its distinctive pair of front towers. Designed by Josef and Hubert van Groenendael, the building blends neogothic and neoromanesque influences with a more modern, expressive character typical of the period. Inside, the church reveals a warm, spacious interior with brickwork, high vaults and notable artworks, including a post‑war altar ensemble by sculptor Charles Vos. Today, the Sint Theresiakerk remains an active parish church while also serving as the home of philharmonie zuidnederland, making it a rare example of a sacred space that successfully accommodates both liturgical life and contemporary cultural activity.

Sint Theresiakerk, also known as Opus 9, is located on Sint Theresiaplein in the Biesland district in the southwest of Maastricht, on the edge of the historic city centre. The church stands just south of Tongerseweg, one of the main approach roads into the city, placing it within easy reach of Maastricht’s central sights while remaining in a quieter residential area. Nearby you will find the River Meuse and the old town within a short bus or bike ride, as well as major venues such as MECC Maastricht and Château Neercanne a few kilometres away, making the church a convenient cultural stop in Maastricht West.
