Regional Museum of Natural History

Regional Museum of Natural History Plovdiv is one of Bulgaria’s most engaging science museums, offering a close look at the region’s biodiversity and the wider natural world. Founded in 1955, it has grown into a modern, family‑friendly institution where each hall feels like a different ecosystem waiting to be explored. Inside, the most captivating space is the live aquarium, home to colourful freshwater species from the Balkans and exotic fish from around the world. One interesting fact is that the museum was among the first in Bulgaria to create a dedicated planetarium, allowing visitors to experience simulated night skies and learn about astronomy through vivid projections. The diorama halls are another highlight. They recreate forests, mountains, and wetlands with lifelike taxidermy and detailed scenery, offering a snapshot of how animals behave in their natural environments. The mineral collection adds a sparkling contrast, displaying crystals and geological specimens that trace the Earth’s deep history.
