Nedkovich House

Nedkovich House is one of Plovdiv’s most elegant Revival‑era residences, a refined 1860s mansion that reflects the taste and status of its owner, merchant Atanas Nedkovich. Unlike some Old Town houses rebuilt later, this one survives in its original form, making it a rare example of authentic 19th‑century urban architecture. Inside, the atmosphere is shaped by painted interiors in soft pastel tones, decorative friezes, and finely carved wooden ceilings. Each room reveals a different facet of bourgeois life: reception spaces designed for formal visits, family rooms with delicate furniture, and quiet corners where embroidered textiles and small objects tell intimate stories. One interesting fact is that the house preserves original wallpapers imported from Central Europe—an uncommon luxury in Bulgaria at the time. The central salon is the highlight, with its symmetrical layout and elegant proportions. Light enters through tall windows, illuminating mirrors, wooden cabinets, and period décor that evoke the lifestyle of Plovdiv’s prosperous merchant class. The courtyard adds charm with its stone fountain and shaded garden, offering a peaceful pause before returning to the cobbled streets.
