Tašmajdan Park in Belgrade is a historic urban oasis located in the Palilula municipality, just southeast of the city center. Its name, derived from Turkish words meaning “stone quarry,” reflects its ancient origins as a Roman and later Ottoman excavation site. Transformed into a public park in 1954, Tašmajdan has since become a cherished green space, blending natural beauty with cultural significance. The park is home to landmarks such as the monumental St. Mark’s Church, a small Russian Orthodox chapel, and the Tašmajdan Sports and Recreation Center. It also features sculptures, fountains, and tree-lined paths that invite relaxation and leisure. In 2010–2011, the park underwent a major renovation, enhancing its landscape and amenities. Declared a cultural monument in 2021, Tašmajdan is now part of a protected spatial cultural-historical unit. With its layered history, central location, and vibrant atmosphere, the park remains a vital part of Belgrade’s urban identity and a favorite gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
