Topčider Park in Belgrade is one of the city’s oldest and most cherished green spaces, located about five kilometers from the city center. Commissioned by Prince Miloš Obrenović in the early 1830s, the park was designed in the English landscape style by Atanasije Nikolić, featuring winding paths, lush vegetation, and ornamental fountains. At its heart stands the Residence of Prince Miloš, now a museum dedicated to the First and Second Serbian Uprisings. The park also houses several cultural monuments, including the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Obelisk, and the Archibald Reiss Monument. A highlight is the monumental plane tree, over 160 years old, whose vast canopy offers welcome shade. Once a royal retreat, Topčider evolved into a public park by the mid-19th century and remains a beloved destination for leisure and cultural exploration. Its blend of natural beauty and historical significance makes it a vital part of Belgrade’s heritage.
Belgrade Serbia
Topčider Park is located just a few kilometers south of Belgrade’s city center, spreading across the municipalities of Čukarica, Rakovica, and Savski Venac. This historic forest park, nestled in the Topčider river valley, is renowned as one of Belgrade’s oldest and most beloved green spaces, offering a tranquil escape for relaxation, picnics, and leisurely walks. The park’s main attraction is the Residence of Prince Miloš, a 19th-century architectural gem that blends Balkan and Oriental styles and is open to visitors daily. In front of the residence stands one of Europe’s oldest and largest plane trees, officially protected as a natural rarity. Topčider Park is also home to the small Topčider Church and is adjacent to the prestigious Dedinje district, where the Royal and White Palaces are located. The park connects seamlessly with the vast Košutnjak forest, creating the largest green massif near Belgrade’s urban core. Its location and accessibility by tram make it a favorite destination for both locals and tourists seeking nature, history, and a peaceful atmosphere close to the city.
