The cross, made of sandstone and topped with a distinctive weather vane, gave the site its name—“Fähncheskreuz,” or “little flag cross.” In 2008, the area was redesigned as Wiesbaden’s first project within the RhineMain Regional Park initiative. The redesign emphasized sustainability and regional identity, using local materials such as stone and Speierling wood. Today, the viewpoint is part of the “Rundroute” regional park trail between Delkenheim and Kostheim, serving as both a cultural landmark and a recreational destination.
