Goethestein is a commemorative monument in Wiesbaden-Frauenstein, erected in 1932 to honor Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s visit to the area in 1815. The poet had come to study geology and famously fell while climbing the Spitzen Stein, a hill in the Rheingau Mountains. The monument, designed by architect Rudolf A. Zichner and funded by Wilhelm von Opel, takes the form of a tetrahedron built from rough stone blocks on a triangular base. It stands 230 meters above sea level, offering views of Frauenstein, Walluf, and the Rhine Valley. A quote from Goethe is inscribed on the stone, reflecting his philosophical musings on life and nature. The site blends literary heritage with scenic beauty, making it a popular destination for hikers and cultural tourists.
