Museo degli Affreschi is one of Verona’s most atmospheric cultural spaces, dedicated to preserving the city’s remarkable heritage of mural painting. Located beside the Roman Theatre, the museum is housed in the former convent of San Francesco al Corso, where cloisters and quiet courtyards create an evocative setting for its collection. Inside, visitors encounter frescoes from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, many rescued from churches and palaces to protect them from decay. Highlights include the celebrated funerary monument of Juliet, which adds a layer of literary fascination to the site. The museum’s careful display allows each fragment to be appreciated for its colour, technique, and storytelling, offering a vivid journey through Verona’s artistic traditions.

Museo degli Affreschi “G.B. Cavalcaselle” is housed in the former San Francesco al Corso convent complex, in the Cittadella area of Verona on the west bank of the River Adige, a short walk south of the historic centre and Piazza Bra. It stands next to the famous Juliet’s Tomb within the same monastic grounds and is close to landmarks such as the church of San Fermo Maggiore, the riverfront promenades and the central shopping streets, with numerous cafés, restaurants and hotels reachable on foot.
