Ponte Pietra
Ponte Pietra is the oldest bridge in Verona, a remarkable survivor of Roman engineering that has linked the two banks of the Adige since 100 BC. Built along the ancient Via Postumia, it served as a vital crossing for travellers moving between Genoa and Aquileia. The bridge’s five arches reflect the city’s layered history: two Roman arches remain on the left side, while the others were rebuilt in the Middle Ages and RenaissanceVisit Verona. Destroyed during the Second World War, Ponte Pietra was meticulously reconstructed in 1957 using its original stones, restoring its elegant mix of travertine and brick. Today it stands in one of Verona’s most scenic settings, offering sweeping river views and forming a dramatic approach to Castel San Pietro.
