The Puerta de Bisagra (New Gate), also known as Puerta Nueva de Bisagra, is Toledo’s imposing main northern entrance, located on Calle Real del Arrabal at the top of the hill leading into the historic centre of Toledo, Spain. It stands just outside the old city walls and faces the approach from Madrid, making it the first major monument visitors see when walking or driving into the old town from the city’s main road. Immediately nearby are the outer stretches of Toledo’s medieval walls, the historic church of Santiago del Arrabal, and the Tavera Hospital Museum (Hospital de Tavera), a fine Renaissance building just beyond the gate. Inside the old town, the gate opens onto Calle Real del Arrabal, leading directly to key landmarks such as the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz, the Cathedral of Toledo, the Zocodover market square, and the Jewish Quarter, all within a short walk.
