The Church of Los Jesuitas, also known as the Iglesia de San Ildefonso, is one of Toledo’s most impressive Baroque landmarks, rising prominently above the city’s historic skyline. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries by the Jesuit order, the church was designed to honour Saint Ildefonso, Toledo’s patron. Its twin towers, visible from many viewpoints across the city, offer one of the best panoramic terraces in Toledo, drawing visitors who want to admire the rooftops, cathedral spires, and winding streets from above. Inside, the church reveals a bright, harmonious interior with soaring columns, ornate altarpieces, and a sense of grandeur typical of Jesuit architecture. Despite its imposing presence, the atmosphere remains serene, inviting quiet reflection. The Church of Los Jesuitas (Iglesia de San Ildefonso) is located in Toledo’s historic centre at Plaza Padre Juan de Mariana, 1, in the old town just uphill from the main shopping and administrative area. It sits on one of the highest points in the city, near Calle San Román and Calle Alfonso XII, a short walk from the Zocodover market square and the main city hall (Ayuntamiento). Nearby are the Alcázar of Toledo, the Cathedral of Toledo, the Church of El Salvador, and the historic streets of the former Jewish quarter, with the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca and the Iglesia de Santo Tomé all within easy reach on foot.
