Iglesia de Santo Tomé is one of Toledo’s most visited landmarks, celebrated for its blend of medieval architecture and artistic heritage. Originally founded in the 12th century and later rebuilt in Mudéjar style, the church stands out for its elegant brick tower, inspired by Andalusi minarets, which rises above the surrounding streets of the old city. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and warm, with chapels and altarpieces that reflect centuries of devotion. The church is best known as the home of El Greco’s masterpiece The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, a monumental painting that draws visitors from around the world. Its dramatic composition and spiritual depth transform the small chapel into a space of awe and contemplation. The Iglesia de Santo Tomé is located in Toledo’s historic old town, at Plaza del Conde 4, in the heart of the former Jewish quarter, just off the main streets near the Zocodover market square. It stands on a small square in the old Judería, close to the Synagoga de Santa María La Blanca and within easy walking distance of the Cathedral of Toledo, the Alcázar, and the Church of El Tránsito. Nearby, visitors can also reach the Puerta del Cambrón gate, the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz, and the narrow, atmospheric streets of the cathedral quarter, making it a central point in Toledo’s main sightseeing circuit.
