Ett Hem Museum is an intimate window into Turku’s upper‑class life at the turn of the 20th century, preserved in a charming yellow wooden house near Turku Cathedral. Once the home of Consul Alfred Jacobsson and his wife Hélène, the residence reflects their refined taste and passion for art, with rooms furnished in period styles ranging from Baroque to Biedermeier. Paintings, textiles, porcelain, and early electric lamps create an atmosphere of quiet elegance, evoking a world where domestic life and cultural appreciation intertwined. The museum opened in 1932 after the couple donated their home and collection to the Åbo Akademi University Foundation, and since 1965 it has operated in its current location on Piispankatu. Today, Ett Hem remains a serene, beautifully curated home museum that offers visitors a rare glimpse into Turku’s bourgeois heritage and the personal stories behind one of the city’s most culturally engaged families.
