Kylämäki Village of Living History in Turku is an immersive heritage area where everyday life from the 1950s is brought vividly to life. Set on four historic farms that still stand on their original sites, the village has roots reaching back to the 7th century, creating a rare continuity between ancient settlement and modern interpretation. At its heart is the Iso‑Kohmo house, furnished exactly as it was in the mid‑20th century, where a resident “woman farmer” shares stories, demonstrates household tasks, and evokes the rhythms of rural life. Visitors are encouraged to touch objects, sit on chairs, and explore freely, reflecting the village’s role as a hands‑on teaching collection. Seasonal workshops introduce traditional crafts and offer opportunities to try activities from baking to textile work, while the surrounding landscape provides a peaceful setting year‑round. Together, these elements make Kylämäki a living, breathing window into Finland’s rural past.
