The Sibelius Museum in Turku is Finland’s only museum dedicated entirely to music, offering a rich journey through musical heritage in a striking 1960s brutalist building on Piispankatu. Its collections span thousands of instruments from around the world, extensive archives of manuscripts, recordings, and photographs, and exhibitions that highlight both global music history and the life and legacy of Jean Sibelius. The museum’s atmospheric concert hall hosts regular performances ranging from classical chamber music to jazz and folk, making it an active cultural venue as much as a museum. Founded in the 1920s within Åbo Akademi University and renamed with Sibelius’s blessing in 1949, it has grown into a vibrant centre for research, exhibitions, and live music. Today, visitors can explore its permanent displays, rotating thematic exhibitions, and the unique architectural character that has made the Sibelius Museum a cornerstone of Turku’s cultural landscape.

The Sibelius Museum is located at Piispankatu 17, 20500 Turku, Finland, about a kilometre from the market square and just a few hundred metres from Turku Cathedral. Nestled in a calm university campus area bordered by the River Aura, it offers easy access on foot from the city centre along scenic riverside paths. Street parking is available nearby, with public buses stopping close by. Surrounding the museum is a cluster of cultural gems including the iconic Turku Cathedral directly adjacent, the charming Ett Hem Museum across the street, and lush green spaces like Lönnrot’s Park, Brahe’s Park, and Porthan’s Park—all within a short stroll.
