Röhsska Museum

About

Röhsska Museum is Gothenburg’s dedicated museum of design and craft, offering a wide‑ranging look at how objects, materials, and ideas shape everyday life. Founded in 1916 and located just off Avenyn, it brings together Swedish and international design, fashion, architecture, and applied arts in a setting that blends historic depth with contemporary creativity. Its permanent exhibitions trace design stories from the mid‑1800s to today, showcasing furniture, textiles, ceramics, silverwork, and industrial design, while the Inspiration East Asia galleries highlight long‑standing artistic exchanges between the Nordic region and Asia. Visitors can explore everything from 18th‑century interiors to modern innovations, as well as an extensive open storage display featuring more than 500 chairs spanning three centuries. Alongside its permanent collections, the museum hosts thought‑provoking temporary exhibitions that examine themes such as survivalism, architecture, and cultural identity, adding fresh perspectives to its core mission. With lectures, workshops, and a welcoming café and shop, the Röhsska Museum offers an engaging and multifaceted introduction to the world of design in the heart of Gothenburg.
