Lužánky Park

About

Lužánky Park is the green heart of Brno and the oldest public park in the Czech Republic, established in the late 18th century by Emperor Joseph II. Its long history gives it a special character: for decades it served as a social promenade, a place for concerts, and even a venue for early Sokol gatherings. One interesting fact is that the park once hosted a small zoo, long before Brno built its modern zoological garden. Today, Lužánky offers a calm, spacious landscape shaped by old trees, winding paths, and open lawns. At its centre stands the elegant Neoclassical pavilion, originally built as a spa house and now used for exhibitions and cultural events. Inside, visitors can explore small art displays or attend workshops that connect the park’s past with contemporary creativity. Scattered around the park are children’s playgrounds, sports courts, and quiet corners ideal for reading or picnicking. Seasonal flowerbeds and the park’s ornamental fountain add colour throughout the year. Lužánky remains a beloved meeting place where history, leisure, and nature blend effortlessly.
