Herz‑Jesu‑Kirche in Graz is one of Austria’s most impressive neo‑Gothic churches and a landmark that immediately stands out thanks to its soaring 109‑metre tower, the third‑tallest church tower in the country. Completed in 1891, it was built during a period of renewed interest in medieval architecture, and its design reflects a meticulous revival of Gothic forms—pointed arches, slender pillars, and richly patterned brickwork. Inside, the church feels unexpectedly light and vertical. Tall stained‑glass windows bathe the nave in soft colour, especially striking in the morning when the sun ignites the deep reds and blues. Many of these windows were destroyed during the Second World War and later replaced, creating a dialogue between historic craftsmanship and modern interpretation. The rib‑vaulted ceiling and delicate tracery give the interior a sense of upward movement, drawing the eye toward the sanctuary. A highlight is the high altar, carved from marble and decorated with fine sculptural detail. Side chapels contain expressive statues and devotional artworks that reflect late‑19th‑century religious aesthetics. The church’s organ, with its powerful tonal range, is frequently used for concerts, adding another layer to the experience.

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) is the largest church in Graz, located at Sparbersbachgasse 58 in the Geidorf district. Built in the 1880s in Neo-Gothic backsteingotik (red-brick Gothic) style by architect Georg von Hauberrisser, its soaring spire reaches almost 110 meters, making it a striking landmark visible from many parts of the city. The church is easily accessible by tram line 3 (stop “Herz-Jesu-Kirche”) or by bus 31 from Jakominiplatz, and it is about a 5‑minute walk from the bus stop. Near Herz-Jesu-Kirche, the surrounding neighborhood is perfect for a gentle stroll and photography walk, with a cute café nearby and quiet streets ideal for relaxation. Walking from the church towards the city center, you pass through pleasant residential areas and reach the historic Altstadt von Graz (Old Town), just 0.8 miles (about 1.3 km) away, with its UNESCO-listed landmarks.
