Sigmund Freud Museum
About

The Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna, located at Berggasse 19, was home to Sigmund Freud for 47 years and is considered the birthplace of psychoanalysis. Following extensive renovations, visitors can now explore all of Freud's private rooms. The museum houses a documentary center about his life and work, showcasing original items, the practice's waiting room, and part of his antique collection. It also features Europe's largest psychoanalytic research library. While Freud's famous couch is now in the Freud Museum in London, an augmented reality installation brings it back to Berggasse 19 virtually. The museum also presents special exhibitions and a collection of conceptual art, exploring the influence of psychoanalysis on art and society. You can see the original layout of his living and working spaces, including the floors, doors, and even the view into the inner courtyard, offering an authentic experience of Freud's environment. The museum also addresses the history of the building and the impact of Nazi terror, which led to Freud's emigration to London in 1938.
