Mumok, the Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, is Central Europe’s largest museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, offering an impressive cross-section of 20th and 21st-century artistic movements. Its collection features around 10,000 works by 1,600 artists, spanning Pop Art, Photorealism, Fluxus, Nouveau Réalisme, Viennese Actionism, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art. Visitors can see iconic pieces by Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, and Yoko Ono, as well as works by Daniel Spoerri, Nam June Paik, and Marcel Duchamp. The museum is particularly strong in documenting Viennese Actionism, with significant works by Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch, and Rudolf Schwarzkogler, reflecting Austria’s radical avant-garde legacy. Classical Modernism is also represented with works by Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and Piet Mondrian. Recent years have seen a growing emphasis on photography, video, and film, including a cinema space that explores the intersection of visual art and moving images.
