Stephansplatz is Vienna’s central square, located at the heart of the city’s historic Innere Stadt district and directly above the Stephansplatz U-Bahn station (U1, U3), making it one of the city’s most accessible and busiest locations. The square is dominated by the iconic St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom), a Gothic masterpiece whose soaring south tower and colorful tiled roof are visible from across Vienna. Surrounding the square are Vienna’s most exclusive shopping streets, Graben and Kärntner Straße, both lined with elegant boutiques, cafés, and historic buildings. Directly across from the cathedral is the modern Haas Haus, a striking example of contemporary architecture that contrasts with the medieval ambiance of the area. Other nearby highlights include the Baroque Plague Column (Pestsäule) on Graben, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Dom Museum Wien.
