The Austrian National Library (Österreichische Nationalbibliothek), located in the heart of Vienna within the Hofburg Palace, is Austria’s largest and most prestigious library. Founded in 1368 as the Imperial Court Library, it became the national library in 1920 following the fall of the Habsburg Empire. Today, it houses over 12 million items, including rare manuscripts, incunabula, maps, globes, and photographs. Its architectural crown jewel is the Baroque State Hall, a breathtaking space adorned with frescoes and home to over 200,000 volumes.
