The Teatro Principal of Santiago de Compostela is one of the city’s most historic and beloved cultural venues, standing on the elegant Rúa Nova since its inauguration in 1841. Designed by architect Manuel Prado y Vallo, the theatre preserves its nineteenth‑century charm with a classical stone façade and an intimate interior featuring a traditional horseshoe layout with stalls, boxes and an upper gallery. With a capacity of just over four hundred seats, it offers a warm and immersive atmosphere that has made it a favourite among performers and audiences alike. Throughout the year, the Teatro Principal hosts a rich programme of theatre, dance, concerts, film screenings and major cultural events, including renowned festivals such as Cineuropa and Curtocircuíto. It also serves as the home of the Municipal Music Band’s weekly concerts, reinforcing its role as a vibrant meeting point for the city’s artistic life.

The Teatro Principal is located at Rúa Nova, 21, in the historic centre of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, right in the heart of the old town by a main pedestrian street. It stands just a short walk northeast of the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, very close to the Praza do Obradoiro and the main Camino de Santiago routes.
