Maele Castle (Kasteel van Male), also known as Male Castle, is located in the Male district of Sint-Kruis, a suburb about 5 km east of Bruges historic city centre, accessible via Markelijkse voorlaan near the village square and 17th-century town hall. This moated medieval fortress, rebuilt after World War II and formerly housing St. Trudo's Abbey until 2011, features a 14th-century tower, residential wings, chapel, and serene grounds entered through a gate off the main square, with bus connections from Bruges Station via line 23 to Male Kerk. Nearby stand St. Trudo's Abbey just 15 meters away, Male Pillory and Schepenhuis within 180 meters, Kasteel Les Fayards and Kasteel De Vijvers under 300 meters, plus rural castles like Kasteel Rooigem (1.9 km) and scenic spots such as Ryckevelde (1.1 km), blending noble heritage with quiet countryside charm en route to central Bruges landmarks.
