Wilhelminapark is one of Utrecht’s most elegant historic parks, opened in 1898 and designed in the English landscape style that favours sweeping lawns, curving paths, and naturalistic plantings. Its creation followed the city’s purchase of the land in the late 19th century, when Utrecht sought more green space for its growing population. At the heart of the park lies a large ornamental pond with small islands and a fountain, surrounded by meadows, flowerbeds, and clusters of mature trees that give the park its romantic character. Wide promenades invite leisurely walks, while open fields in the north and south offer space for picnics, sports, and sunbathing. A statue of Queen Wilhelmina stands near the water, reflecting the park’s royal namesake. Today, Wilhelminapark remains a cherished retreat in Utrecht‑Oost, valued for its calm atmosphere, seasonal beauty, and the sense of classic park design that continues to shape daily life in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Griftpark is located at Van Swindenstraat 129, 3572 KC Utrecht (also bordered by Blauwkapelseweg and Kleine Singel), in the Noordoost neighbourhood just northeast of the historic city centre. This modern urban oasis features expansive green lawns, a 220-metre living wall, ponds, playgrounds, Griftsteede petting zoo and restaurant, one of the Netherlands' largest skate parks, basketball courts and a hill with city views, perfect for picnics and relaxation. It lies near Wittevrouwen residential area with cafés, a short tram or cycle ride from the Oudegracht canal's wharves, Dom Tower and Utrecht Centraal Station, while the Merwedekanaal zone offers additional walking paths.
