Molen de Ster is a rare surviving sawmill in the Utrecht district of Lombok, an 18th‑century industrial monument that still operates much as it once did. Set on a quiet, green mill yard surrounded by water, it combines historic craftsmanship with a lively community atmosphere. The mill remains fully functional, and on Saturdays the millers bring it to life, demonstrating how tree trunks are cut into planks when the wind is strong enough . The surrounding grounds include former miller’s houses, a large lawn, and small animals that add to the charm of the site, making it especially appealing for families. Today, Molen de Ster serves not only as a working heritage site but also as a welcoming social space, with a cosy café by the water and regular tours that reveal the mill’s history and techniques. Its blend of authenticity, craftsmanship, and neighbourhood warmth makes it one of Utrecht’s most distinctive historic places.
