The Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht is one of the most iconic creations of the De Stijl movement and a landmark of modern architecture. Completed in 1924 for Truus Schröder, it was designed by Gerrit Rietveld as a radical break from traditional domestic living. The house is defined by clean lines, primary colours, and an interplay of planes that blur the boundaries between inside and outside. Its upper floor is especially innovative, featuring sliding panels that transform the space from a single open room into smaller private areas, reflecting Schröder’s desire for freedom and flexibility in daily life.
