Jiří Myron Theatre is one of Ostrava’s most dynamic cultural venues, known for its bold programming and distinctive architectural story. Originally built as a cinema in the early 20th century, it was transformed into a full‑scale theatre after World War II and later renamed in honour of Jiří Myron, a respected actor and director who shaped Ostrava’s artistic scene. A major fire in 1976 destroyed much of the building, but its reconstruction gave it a modern identity that contrasts with the city’s older theatres. Inside, visitors find a spacious auditorium designed for musicals, operettas, drama, and ballet, making it one of the most versatile stages in the region. The theatre is home to the acclaimed operetta and musical ensemble, whose productions attract audiences from across Moravia and Silesia. The foyer displays period photographs and design sketches that reveal the theatre’s evolving artistic vision. With its blend of history, resilience, and contemporary energy, Jiří Myron Theatre stands as a symbol of Ostrava’s creative spirit.
