Bělský Les

About

Bělský Les is Ostrava’s largest forest park and one of the city’s most beloved natural escapes. Spreading across the southern districts, it blends quiet woodland with traces of the region’s past. The area once bordered mining colonies, and several old water reservoirs still hint at its industrial surroundings. Today, it is a protected green zone rich in wildlife, with deer, foxes, and many bird species living among its oaks, birches, and pines. Inside the forest, visitors find a network of well‑marked trails ideal for walking, running, and cycling. The popular Bělský Rybník pond adds a peaceful focal point, especially in summer. Families appreciate the spacious playgrounds and outdoor fitness areas, while the nearby Bělský Les sports complex offers tennis courts and seasonal activities. Scattered wooden sculptures and small clearings create moments of surprise along the paths. Bělský Les remains a rare combination of deep forest atmosphere and easy urban access, making it a favourite retreat for locals.
