MUSEum+ Industrial Museum Ostrava presents the story of Czech industry with an impressive sense of scale and atmosphere. Located in the former Lower Vítkovice complex, it transforms authentic factory halls into modern exhibition spaces where heavy machinery becomes both artefact and backdrop. Inside, visitors can explore massive steam engines, metallurgical equipment, and early electrical machines that once powered the region’s industrial rise. One of the most fascinating elements is the collection of historic vehicles and technical innovations, showing how engineering shaped everyday life. Interactive stations let guests test mechanical principles, understand energy production, and see how industrial processes evolved over time. The museum also highlights the human side of industry through personal stories, photographs, and reconstructed workplaces. Its blend of monumental technology and thoughtful interpretation makes MUSEum+ a vivid gateway into Ostrava’s industrial heritage.
Ostrava Czech Republic
MUSEum+ Industrial Museum Ostrava is located on Vítkovická Street in the Vítkovice district of Ostrava, right in the area that once powered the city’s heavy industry. The museum stands in a historic industrial hall and showcases Ostrava’s legacy as the “Iron Heart” of the Czech Republic, with exhibits on steelmaking, coal mining, technology, and the people who shaped the region’s industrial story. Being in Vítkovice puts you within easy reach of some of Ostrava’s most distinctive attractions. Just a short walk away is the Dolní Vítkovice complex, a sprawling former ironworks, coal mine, and coking plant turned national site of industrial heritage. Visitors can tour blast furnaces, ride up the Bolt Tower for sweeping views of the city, and explore the Science and Technology Centre with hands-on exhibits on inventions, energy, and the world of industry. The Gong auditorium, set in a former gas holder, now hosts concerts and cultural events under its striking steel shell. Also close by is Landek Park Mining Museum, where you can descend into authentic mine shafts with former miners as guides to experience the underground world that built Ostrava. In the city centre, Masaryk Square features the Old Town Hall housing the Ostrava Museum, known for its city history collections and unique indoor astronomical clock. The New City Hall Viewing Tower is another favorite, offering clear-day views of Ostrava, the Beskid Mountains, and neighboring Poland.
