Komenského Sady is Ostrava’s largest and most atmospheric city park, stretching along the Ostravice River like a green ribbon in the heart of the city. Established in the late 19th century, it was designed as a representative urban promenade, and many of its original tree‑lined avenues still shape its character today. The park is also a place of memory: a monument to World War II victims stands near the central path, creating a quiet space for reflection. Inside the park, visitors can enjoy wide lawns, riverside views, and a rich mix of old maples, lindens, and oaks that give the area a calm, almost historical feel. The small rose garden adds seasonal colour, while playgrounds and sports areas make it a lively spot for families and joggers. In summer, open‑air events and cultural gatherings bring the park to life. Komenského Sady remains a peaceful escape where nature, history, and everyday city life meet.

Komenského Sady is one of Ostrava’s largest and most pleasant city parks, located along the landscaped banks of the Ostravice River in the very centre of the city. It is a green escape from the urban streets, with wide paths, tree-lined avenues, and space for walking, cycling, skating, or simply relaxing. The park is especially attractive because it sits right next to some of Ostrava’s most important sights. Nearby, you can easily visit the New Town Hall and its viewing tower, which offers one of the best panoramas of the city. The historic centre of Ostrava is also close, so a walk from the park can include Masaryk Square, the Cathedral of the Divine Saviour, and the Church of St. Wenceslas. If you want to continue sightseeing, the park works well as part of a longer route through Ostrava. On one side, you can head toward the city’s cultural buildings and riverfront; on the other, you can reach Silesian Ostrava Castle and later continue toward Dolní Vítkovice, one of the city’s most famous tourist attractions. Komenského Sady is therefore a good place both for rest and for starting a day of sightseeing in Ostrava.
