The Slovak Mining Museum is located in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Banská Štiavnica, central Slovakia. The museum has its administration and main building at Kammerhofská 2, known as Kammerhof, and also includes the Open-Air Mining Museum at Jozefa Karola Hella 12. The Open-Air Mining Museum, located on the tailings pile of the Ondrej Shaft and open since 1974, is a unique museum of its kind in Slovakia. It offers guided tours in English, German, Hungarian, and Polish for an extra fee, and visitors can explore underground pits. Nearby tourist attractions include the Old Castle (Starý zámok), a medieval tower from the 12th century dominating the town's west terrace, which also houses part of the Slovak Mining Museum collections. The New Castle (Nový zámok), a 16th-century fortress about 392 meters from downtown, offers exhibitions and panoramic views of the town. Trojičné námestie (Trinity Square) with its baroque plague column and colorful burgher houses is the main hub of the historic center, while Tajné námestie (Secret Square) is another charming square with cafes and Baroque architecture. The Baroque Calvary complex with 23 chapels climbing the hill above the town offers beautiful walks and stunning views.
