The Berggericht Mineralogical Exhibition in Banská Štiavnica is a treasure house of geological wonders, located in a historic building that once served as the mining court—where disputes, inspections, and ore evaluations were carried out during the town’s golden age of silver mining. Today, it offers one of Slovakia’s richest mineral collections, reflecting the extraordinary geological diversity of the Štiavnica Mountains. Inside, visitors can admire thousands of mineral specimens, from glittering quartz and amethyst to rare ores that once made the region famous. One of the most interesting highlights is the display of local minerals formed in ancient volcanic activity, showing unique crystal shapes and vivid colours. The exhibition also includes impressive samples of gold‑bearing ores, illustrating why Banská Štiavnica became a major European mining centre. A dedicated section presents fluorescent minerals that glow under ultraviolet light, creating a striking visual experience. Another engaging feature is the educational display explaining how minerals form, how they were mined, and how they were used in daily life and industry. The historic atmosphere of the Berggericht building adds depth, connecting scientific beauty with centuries of mining tradition.
