The Ethnographic Museum of the University of Zürich, called Völkerkundemuseum, is located in the Old Botanical Garden at Pelikanstrasse 40. It sits just off bustling Bahnhofstrasse in central Zürich, tucked inside a quiet green park with palm houses and ponds. You’re only 3 minutes from Bahnhofstrasse, Zürich’s luxury shopping street filled with watch boutiques, chocolate shops like Läderach, and department stores. Walk one block to Paradeplatz, the city’s financial center and a major tram hub. The Old Botanical Garden itself is worth a stroll. Its 19th-century glasshouses and Gessner Garden with medicinal plants offer a calm break from the city. From here it’s a 5-minute walk to Lake Zürich at Bürkliplatz, where you can catch boat cruises or enjoy alpine views from the lakeside promenade. Zürich’s Old Town is close too. Cross the Bahnhofstrasse and you’ll reach Lindenhof, a hilltop park with Roman history and sweeping views over the Limmat River and church spires.
