The Swiss National Museum, housed in a fairy‑tale neo‑Gothic building beside Zürich’s Hauptbahnhof, is one of the country’s most important cultural institutions. Opened in 1898, its castle‑like silhouette was intentionally designed to evoke Switzerland’s medieval heritage, while inside it preserves over a million objects spanning prehistoric times to the present. The Swiss National Museum is located in central Zürich, right next to Zürich Hauptbahnhof and close to Platzspitz Park. Its address is Museumstrasse 2, and it is one of the easiest major sights to reach in the city because it sits beside the main railway station. The museum is known for its castle-like architecture and for presenting Swiss history from the earliest times to the present day. It is a strong choice for visitors who want a cultural stop that is both impressive outside and informative inside.
