Theater aan de Rijn is an intimate and adventurous stage in the heart of Arnhem, known for championing new makers and contemporary performing arts. Housed in a 19th‑century building originally constructed as a residence for the local Freemasons, it has evolved into a creative hub where experimentation and emerging talent take centre stage. Since its official opening as a theatre in 1966, it has become part of De Nieuwe Oost, a network that supports young artists across disciplines. With two compact halls, the venue offers an up‑close experience that suits innovative theatre, dance, and performance projects. Its location on Rijnstraat, next to the lively Bartokplein, places it within Arnhem’s cultural core. Today, Theater aan de Rijn continues to nurture bold artistic voices, making it a vital platform for fresh perspectives and contemporary storytelling in the city.

Theater aan de Rijn Arnhem is located at Bartok Park in the heart of Arnhem city centre, with its office and artist entrance at Rijnstraat 42, 6811 EX Arnhem, directly opposite Erfgoedcentrum Rozet. Easily reached by foot from Arnhem Centraal Station in about 10 minutes via Nieuwe Plein and Oude Oeverstraat, or by bus with the Rozet stop right outside. Nearby, Erfgoedcentrum Rozet offers heritage exhibits and a rooftop terrace across the park; Eusebiuskerk looms 300 metres east for panoramic climbs; and Airborne at the Bridge sits 500 metres north along the Rhine. The vibrant Rijnstraat buzzes with shops and cafés, while Musis and Stadstheater lie 800 metres northeast, all linked by pedestrian paths, trams, and Rozet parking garage 200 metres away.
