Het Fortuyn is one of Arnhem’s most recognisable windmills, standing proudly within the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum on the city’s green northern edge. Built in 1920 and later moved from its original location in Velp, the tall six‑storey tower mill embodies traditional Dutch milling craftsmanship with its cast‑iron windshaft, common sails, and multiple sets of millstones. Restored to full working order, it offers visitors an authentic look at historic grain production, from the turning sails outside to the wooden gears and grinding stones inside. Surrounded by farmhouses, workshops, and woodland paths, Het Fortuyn forms a striking silhouette across the museum grounds and provides a vivid sense of how windmills once shaped daily life in the eastern Netherlands.

Het Fortuyn Windmill is located at Hoeferlaan 4 within the Netherlands Open Air Museum on the northern edge of Arnhem. Originally built in Delft in 1696 and relocated here in 1920, this historic tower mill stands among other traditional Dutch buildings, farms, and windmills in the expansive museum grounds. Nearby exhibits include the Spinnenkop drainage mill, rural farmhouses, craft workshops, and interactive displays on Dutch heritage, with cycle paths and parkland surrounding the site. The museum connects easily to Arnhem Centraal station by bus (10 minutes), John Frost Bridge via main roads, and offers ample parking, shops, and cafés on-site.
