Budolfi Cathedral is one of Aalborg’s most cherished landmarks, rising from the highest point of the old town with its distinctive white façade and elegant tower. Although modest in size, it carries centuries of history, evolving from an early wooden church into the Gothic stone cathedral seen today. Named after St. Botolph, the English patron saint of travelers, the cathedral has long been a spiritual anchor for the city and remains central to Aalborg’s identity, even appearing on its coat of arms. Inside, visitors find a serene atmosphere enriched by beautifully carved furnishings, historic altarpieces, and soft natural light. Surrounded by narrow streets and historic squares, Budolfi Cathedral offers a peaceful pause in the heart of Aalborg, blending medieval heritage with the living rhythm of the modern city.

Budolfi Cathedral is located at Algade 40 in the historic centre of Aalborg, on the southern side of Gammeltorv, the old market square and one of the city’s main meeting points. It stands on one of the highest spots in the old town between the traditional high street Algade and Gammeltorv, placing it right in the middle of Aalborg’s compact pedestrian area with shops, cafés and restaurants just steps away. Nearby you will find popular streets such as Jomfru Ane Gade, known for its nightlife, as well as historic sites like Jens Bang’s Stenhus, the Old Town Hall and several small museums and galleries, all within a few minutes’ walk.
