Jens Bang’s House is one of Aalborg’s most iconic Renaissance landmarks, dominating the historic center with its richly decorated façade and bold architectural presence. Built in 1624 by the wealthy merchant Jens Bang, the five‑storey stone house was a statement of ambition and prosperity, adorned with ornate gables, sculpted details, and expressive faces that still capture attention today. For more than three centuries, it also housed the city’s oldest pharmacy, adding another layer to its long urban story. Although the interior is not generally open to the public, the building remains a highlight of Aalborg’s old town, admired for its exceptional preservation and its role as a symbol of the city’s flourishing past. Standing proudly on Østerågade, Jens Bang’s House continues to embody the spirit and confidence of Aalborg’s Renaissance era.
Aalborg DenmarkJens Bang’s House is located on Østerågade 9, right on Nytorv square in the very centre of Aalborg, surrounded by the city’s main shopping streets and historic merchant houses. It stands close to Jørgen Olufsen’s House and just a short walk from Budolfi Cathedral, Aalborg Monastery and Aalborghus Castle, as well as the pedestrian zone with its many cafés, restaurants and boutiques.
