Jørgen Olufsen’s House is one of Aalborg’s finest surviving examples of Renaissance architecture, offering a vivid glimpse into the city’s prosperous merchant past. Built in 1616 by Jørgen Olufsen, a prominent trader who later became mayor, the house combines sturdy half‑timbered construction with elegant sandstone detailing that reflects the wealth and ambition of its owner. Its gabled façade, carved ornaments, and distinctive bay windows make it a standout landmark along Østerågade. The building once served as both residence and warehouse, with large storage rooms connected to the bustling harbor trade. Today, it remains remarkably well preserved, admired for its craftsmanship and its role in telling the story of Aalborg’s commercial golden age. Jørgen Olufsen’s House stands as a proud reminder of the city’s Renaissance heritage and the influential families who shaped its development.

Jørgen Olufsens House is located on Østerågade 25, close to Nytorv square in the historic centre of Aalborg, at the end of the main shopping area just by the former harbourfront. It stands a short walk from Jens Bang’s House on Østerågade, Budolfi Cathedral on Gammeltorv and the Monastery of the Holy Ghost, and is surrounded by pedestrian streets filled with cafés, restaurants and boutiques, while Aalborghus Castle and the Limfjord waterfront promenade are also only a few minutes away on foot.
