Aalborg Tower rises above the city as one of Aalborg’s most distinctive landmarks, offering a sweeping panorama that captures both the urban skyline and the surrounding landscape. Built in 1933 for the North Jutland Exhibition, the steel lattice tower stands atop the Skovbakken hill, reaching a total height of 105 metres above sea level. Its outdoor elevator—the highest of its kind in Northern Europe—adds a touch of adventure to the ascent. At the top, visitors are welcomed by a cosy bistro and a 360‑degree viewing platform where the Limfjord, historic rooftops, and modern cityscape unfold in every direction. Whether enjoyed as a peaceful retreat above the bustle or as a highlight of a city visit, Aalborg Tower remains a timeless symbol of the city’s modernist spirit and scenic beauty.

Location

Aalborg Tower (Aalborgtårnet) is located at Søndre Skovvej 30 on Skovbakken hill, just southwest of central Aalborg, rising above the city in a green, park-like area. It stands close to major attractions such as KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, Kildeparken with the Park of Music and De Syngende Træer, and Aalborg Zoo, all clustered around the same hillside district. From the tower it is a short drive or a 30–40 minute uphill walk from the city centre’s pedestrian streets and the waterfront, where you find Musikkens Hus, the Utzon Center and the cultural hub Nordkraft.
