Cișmigiu Gardens is Bucharest’s oldest and most picturesque public park, offering a serene retreat in the heart of the city. Established in 1847, the park spans 14.6 hectares and surrounds a scenic artificial lake, originally a natural pool used by local vineyards. Designed in the style of an English garden, Cișmigiu features winding paths, lush greenery, and elegant fountains, creating a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. The park is home to several landmarks, including the Romanian Writers’ Rotunda, a circular walkway lined with busts of famous literary figures, and the Monument of French Heroes, honoring soldiers who fought in World War I. Seasonal attractions include boat rentals in summer and ice skating in winter, making Cișmigiu a year-round destination. Located near Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, the gardens provide a peaceful escape from the city’s bustle while remaining easily accessible. Cișmigiu Gardens is located in the heart of Bucharest’s city center, bordered by Elisabeta Boulevard and Știrbei Vodă Street, with the main entrance opposite the City Hall. This historic park, the oldest and largest green space in central Bucharest, lies close to several key attractions. Nearby are the National Museum of Art of Romania and the Revolution Square, both within easy walking distance. The park is also near the lively Old Town area, known for its cafes and historic architecture, and close to the University Square, a major cultural and social hub. Public transport access is convenient via the Izvor and Universitate metro stations.
