Convent Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of Kutná Hora’s quieter treasures, built in the early 20th century as part of a former Ursuline convent. Its architecture blends late historicism with subtle neo‑Gothic elements, giving the church a graceful, almost monastic simplicity that contrasts with the city’s grand medieval monuments. The building reflects the spiritual and educational mission of the Ursuline order, which played an important role in local community life. Inside, the church offers a serene, harmonious space shaped by clean lines and soft natural light. The main altar features a striking statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, emphasising themes of compassion and devotion central to the order. Delicate stained‑glass windows add colour without overwhelming the interior, while side chapels contain modest yet expressive religious artworks. The preserved convent atmosphere makes the church feel contemplative, inviting visitors to pause rather than simply pass through.
Kutná Hora Czech Republic
The Convent Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located at Jiřího z Poděbrad 287/15 in the historic centre of Kutná Hora, directly adjacent to the Ursuline Convent (Convent of St. Ursula). Together they form one of the most important Baroque buildings in the Czech Republic and a key landmark in the town's UNESCO-listed Inner Town district. The convent itself was built in 1735–1743 according to plans by the famous Baroque architect Kilian Ignace Dientzenhofer. The Convent Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was added later at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, designed by prominent architect Friedrich Ohmann. The church features a distinctive white façade and is actively used for daily prayer, open to visitors from 9:00 to 16:00 for personal devotion. Nearby attractions are all within easy walking distance. The famous St. Barbara's Cathedral is just a few hundred metres away. The Jesuit College (now GASK Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region) with its terrace lined by 13 statues of saints—often called Kutná Hora's "mini Charles Bridge"—is nearby. Other close sights include the Stone House, Czech Museum of Silver, Plague Column, Stone Fountain, Church of St. John of Nepomuk, Church of St. James, Italian Court, and Tyl House. The Sedlec Ossuary is about 1–1.5 kilometres away and can be reached by walking or bus.
