Zdíkův palác is one of Olomouc’s most atmospheric historic treasures, a rare Romanesque residence that once formed the heart of the Přemyslid stronghold on Wenceslas Hill. Built in the 12th century under Bishop Jindřich Zdík, it stands among the oldest surviving palace structures in Central Europe. Its arcaded hall, with slender columns and softly rounded arches, is the building’s most striking feature and a remarkable example of early medieval architecture. Inside, the palace forms part of the Archdiocesan Museum, where visitors can explore exhibitions that reveal the political and spiritual power concentrated here during the Middle Ages. Archaeological finds uncovered on the site—fragments of fortifications, ceramics, and everyday objects—offer a vivid glimpse into life in the early Přemyslid era. The preserved Romanesque spaces create a unique backdrop for sacred art, including Gothic sculptures and medieval liturgical items that reflect the cultural importance of Olomouc’s bishopric.

Zdíkův palác (Zdík's Palace) is a Romanesque palace on Wenceslas Square in the historic heart of Olomouc, on Wenceslas Hill. It is the oldest surviving residential building in Moravia and is part of the larger Olomouc Castle complex, right next to Saint Wenceslas Cathedral. Zdíkův palác is inseparably linked with the Archdiocesan Museum; since 2006 both form one tourist circuit, and visitors can walk directly from the museum into the palace and its cloister. The Gothic cloister with late‑15th‑century frescoes and the Gothic Chapel of St. John the Baptist are also part of the site. Within a short walk you can reach Saint Wenceslas Cathedral, the historical Přemyslid castle area, and the Archbishop's Palace on Wurmova Street. A few minutes' walk downhill leads to Horní náměstí, the main square, where the Holy Trinity Column, the Town Hall, and the famous Astronomical Clock are located. The surrounding old town offers many Baroque buildings, churches, cafés, and the Theresa Gate, making this area ideal for a cultural walking tour.
