Rodini Park is one of the oldest landscaped parks in the world, a green sanctuary just outside the medieval city of Rhodes. Believed to have been a recreational area since Hellenistic times, it was later shaped by the Italians into a romantic woodland filled with bridges, ponds and winding paths. Its natural charm—dense vegetation, flowing water and shaded trails—makes it a refreshing contrast to the island’s archaeological sites. The park’s most intriguing feature is the ancient necropolis, carved into the rock along the hillside. These chamber tombs, dating to the Hellenistic period, reveal Rhodes’ long urban history and add an unexpected archaeological layer to the landscape. Visitors can also follow the stream that runs through the park, crossing small stone bridges and passing under arching trees that create a cool microclimate even in summer. Rodini is famous for its peacocks, which roam freely and add colour and movement to the quiet paths. Their presence has become one of the park’s signature experiences. The Italian‑era aqueduct, still visible in parts, shows how the area was once carefully engineered to support lush vegetation.
Rhodes Greece
Rodini Park sits just south of Rhodes Town on the island of Rhodes, Greece. You’ll find it along the Rhodes-Lindos Avenue in the Rodini area, Rhodes 85100, roughly three kilometres from the centre. This is one of the oldest landscaped parks in the world, a green and shady spot filled with plane trees, streams, small bridges and ponds covered in water lilies. Peacocks wander freely, and there’s a small enclosure with local deer. It’s a quiet place for a stroll or a rest away from the busier parts of town. A short distance further west brings you to Monte Smith and the Acropolis of Rhodes, with its ancient stadium, odeon and temple remains. Heading back north you quickly reach the modern town and, a little further on, the walls of the Medieval Old Town with the Palace of the Grand Master and the Archaeological Museum.
